PlayStation fans have reason to celebrate: the latest PS5 system beta update brings a feature many of us have been wanting for a long time. You can now pair your DualSense or DualSense Edge controller with multiple PS5s (and other devices!) at the same time! Can you imagine jumping from your main console to a PS5 Pro without having to pair and unpair the controller manually every time? Well, now it’s a reality!

Pair your DualSense to multiple devices, hassle-free

Until now, whenever you wanted to use your controller with another device — like a PC, a Mac, or even a second PlayStation 5 — you had to repeat the Bluetooth pairing process from scratch. A nuisance, especially if you do it often. But with the new feature released in this beta update, you can register up to four devices at the same time and switch between them conveniently from the controller itself.

Also, this new option isn’t limited to consoles: you can also assign slots to a Windows PC, a Mac, or your phone to use Remote Play. It’s like having your own Bat-Controller (yes, like in Batman) with multiple connections always ready!

Steps to pair the DualSense with multiple PS5s

Ready to squeeze this new feature like a true gamer pro? Here’s a step-by-step tutorial so you can assign your controller to multiple PlayStation 5 consoles:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the controller if it is connected.
  2. Turn off the controller by holding the PS button until the light bar and the player indicator turn off.
  3. Hold down the PS button and one of the action buttons (🔺 Triangle, 🔴 Circle, ❌ Cross, 🔳 Square) for more than 5 seconds. You’ll see the light bar and the player indicator flash twice.
  4. Enable Bluetooth on the PS5 console you want to pair with and select “Add Bluetooth Device”.
  5. When the controller appears in the list, select it. The player indicator will blink according to the assigned slot: one, two, three, or four lights respectively.

And how do you know which button is associated with each “slot” or device? Here’s the magic key:

Slot Button Controller lights Typical device
1 PS + Triangle 1 light Primary PS5
2 PS + Circle 2 lights Secondary PS5 / PS5 Pro
3 PS + Cross 3 lights Windows PC
4 PS + Square 4 lights iPhone / Remote Play

How to switch between registered devices

Once your devices are set up, switching between them is as simple as performing a button combo. Literally!

  1. Make sure the device you want to connect to is powered on.
  2. Press and hold the PS button together with the action button corresponding to the slot for about 3 seconds.
  3. When you see the light bar and the indicator lights flash, release the buttons. The controller will automatically connect to the assigned device!

This change represents a qualitative leap for those of us who use the DualSense as the main controller across multiple platforms. Just as a Raspberry Pi can be the heart of many tech projects, this new slot system turns your controller into a true cross-platform control hub.

What about energy efficiency?

In addition to these connectivity improvements, Sony has announced a future feature called Power Saver, which will allow certain PS5 games to reduce power consumption without severely compromising the gaming experience. Although it’s not active yet, it’s a nod to Sony’s environmental commitment, in line with its “Road to Zero” plan. These kinds of options, similar to the power-saving mode found on devices like Valve’s Steam Deck, are small but significant improvements that make a difference over time.

Ready to jump from one world to another with just a couple of buttons? Thanks to this update, your DualSense is no longer just your PS5 controller: it’s your geek passport to multiple platforms.
