We already know how Nintendo is with its intellectual properties and their distribution across the internet. Something we missed from the Big N was its fantastic soundtracks on music platforms, a move other companies in the industry have adopted over the past few years. Now, the house of Super Mario has finally jumped on the wagon, but in its own way; launching the mobile app Nintendo Music, which we can download for free for both iPhone and Android devices.
Interestingly, the application has been officially announced in North America and Japan, although it has been released worldwide (and is even available in Spanish). That said, not all users will be able to use it…
Nintendo launches its music app, but to listen you need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription
If you were eager to listen to standout tracks like Gusty Garden from Super Mario Galaxy, The Academy from Pokémon Scarlet / Violet or Hyrule Field from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, you can now do so legally and directly from Nintendo’s servers. Perhaps it would have been better for users if these soundtracks had been added to the catalogs of the main music streaming services, so we could listen to all our favorite songs in one place.
But as for the app itself, we have an interface very similar to other platforms, allowing you to choose themed playlists (for a walk, good night, energetic, a little breather…) or create our own. In addition, we will also find character-based playlists from Nintendo (Bowser, Yoshi, Zelda, Totakeke…), where only tracks that remind us of them will play.
That said, to access this entire catalog we need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription on any of its plans.
The fact that Nintendo Music links to our Nintendo account gives us some advantages, such as automatically knowing which games we’ve played and offering us recommendations based on our activity. Another very interesting option is to hide songs that might be spoilers, a feature you can find by going to Settings > Spoiler Blocking and selecting which games you haven’t finished yet.
Nintendo Music is now available for download on iOS and Android

The Japanese company mentions that they will be adding more tracks regularly, and at launch only a few titles are available in its catalog; we miss more classics from its video games, as well as the fantastic remixes from the Super Smash Bros. series — will we get to hear them in this app? Especially those from external IPs?
As we said, you can now download Nintendo Music on iPhone or iPad from the App Store, or for Android devices from Google Play.
- Download Nintendo Music for iPhone (App Store)
- Download Nintendo Music for Android (Google Play)
It wouldn’t hurt to have an online or desktop client to enjoy this service from our computers, right?
