In the constant race to be the most powerful AI assistant, a new competitor has joined. Although they have been offering their service for some time through X (the social network formerly known as Twitter), now Grok launches its own app that you can download directly to your smartphone, so you can take advantage of the full potential of this AI without having to go through X.
We already know ChatGPT and Copilot well (which we can even use directly on WhatsApp, albeit with limitations), as well as Google’s Gemini and, finally, DeepSeek, which entered recently with a lot of momentum. Grok, on the other hand, seemed to have taken a back seat while integrated into Twitter, but now it throws itself into the competition by presenting its standalone format (although connected to X).
Grok features web and X search
The fact that it is a chatbot born on Elon Musk’s social network means it has native access to all of its content, giving it a key source of information that sets it apart from its competitors. Nevertheless, it is an AI very similar to the rest when it comes to features and interface.
With Grok, in addition to being able to write queries and receive answers, we can generate images and attach files (text, image…) that it can interact with, and even supplement our instructions by searching the internet. It also has a “Thinking” function so the model can reason about our prompt and show how it thinks in exchange for a longer time to generate the response.
It also includes another tool called “DeepSearch“, which uses a more advanced web search system, to which it also devotes more time to craft the response. In this mode we can see how it performs queries across the web and collects information from different sources until it finds the desired answer, or suggests one based on what it was able to find. It is worth noting that these two options cannot be used at the same time; we must choose one or the other when submitting our query.
When you start using Grok, you may see the interface in English; however, you can converse with it in Spanish and it will return answers in the same language, and you can go to the app settings to set it to Spanish. Also, if you have already used similar AIs, the interface will feel very familiar, as mentioned above.
Download Grok for iPhone and Android
If you also want to try it, you can download Grok on your iOS device via the App Store, or on your Android smartphones and tablets from Google Play.
- Download Grok for iPhone or iPad: App Store
- Download Grok for Android: Google Play
Using Grok is free, but with certain limitations; to use it to its fullest and without restrictions you’ll have to subscribe to one of its paid plans (Super Grok), which currently rises to $30 per month and provides fewer prompt limitations, access to “Thinking” and “DeepSearch”, and unlimited image generation.
