When the AI pie was already more or less divided between ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini, a new alternative arrives that claims to be more “intelligent” than the rest. It’s called DeepSeek, which you can download for free as a smartphone app or use through the browser from an interface very similar to the ones we’re already used to.

One of DeepSeek’s strong points, besides matching or even surpassing its main competitors, is that it is an open-source tool, and in addition to being free as we mentioned before, it has an internet connection to search the web for the queries you make.

DeepSeek bursts into the chat AI scene

If you are one of those who until now used ChatGPT in its free mode, you might be interested in trying DeepSeek to carry out your projects, since it doesn’t have the limits of OpenAI’s offering. That said, keep in mind that DeepSeek, at the time of writing, is not able to generate images or other content beyond text, as the other popular alternatives can.

But it does accept that we send it files like images or PDFs to make queries related to the files, although again, you cannot have the web search feature active if you upload local files.

On the other hand, it is not free from one of the main flaws of AIs. In our tests we witnessed responses with some incorrect data and hallucinations typical of this technology, especially when we don’t enable the option for it to consult the internet.

See how it “thinks” and draws conclusions

But one of DeepSeek’s most curious features is its mode “DeepThink R1”, which when activated lets us see how the AI generates a text that is nothing more than the reasoning it is using to reach the answer. Note, this is not the answer itself; that is given separately — this is a glimpse into the way the neural network “thinks” and draws conclusions.

It’s interesting to see how the AI adds 2+2 and draws conclusions; this is also useful to check if at some point it has misinterpreted our words (leading it to give an incorrect answer) and based on that to rephrase our query or try to correct it in subsequent prompts.

Download DeepSeek for iPhone and Android

This platform has arrived with a multitude of options so you can use it where it suits you best. Therefore, if you don’t usually turn on your computer to get the most out of these models, you can also take advantage of its app and use it from your mobile.

You can download DeepSeek for both iPhone and Android for free:

Although for the moment its interface is in English (and Chinese), you can send it queries in any language and it will respond in the same one. However, in “DeepThink” mode we’ll see it “think” in English, although then the answer will be given in the input language.
