If youre like me, who only has Snapchat installed on your smartphone to use its advanced filters (no one beats it at that, even though Instagram has savagely copied most of its functions over time), but youre tired of getting notifications from the app every so often suggesting content or reminding you of photos you took years ago, in this article we show you how you can turn off Snapchat notifications on both iPhone and Android.

The reality, at least in Spain, is what it is: nobody uses Snapchat as a social network. There might be some, but most of us record videos or take photos with its filters, save them to our gallery and then share them on other social networks such as for example Instagram or Tiktok. Its a somewhat crude move, but we probably have a larger audience on other apps than on Snapchat.

Therefore, since we dont use Snapchat as a social network, its content is likely of no interest to you at all and, consequently, neither are its notifications.

Disable notifications from the Snapchat app

For both iOS and Android, open the Snapchat app and follow these steps:

  1. In Snapchats main menu (the camera) tap on your profile picture.
  2. When youre on your profile, tap the gear icon.
  3. This will take you to the app settings; look for the Notifications section.
  4. In Notifications, disable the ones you deem appropriate.

The advantage of doing it this way is that you can select and keep enabled those that do interest you, for example, if a friend adds you or if someone you know tags you in a post. Likewise, you can disable others that are less relevant, such as promotions or content suggested by the company itself.

But if you want to be 100% certain of NOT receiving any notifications from Snapchat, you can block them from your smartphone’s main settings.

Disable ALL Snapchat notifications on iPhone or iPad

  1. Go to the Settings of your iOS device.
  2. Scroll to the Apps section.
  3. Within Apps, find the Snapchat application.
  4. Inside Snapchat youll see the Notifications option.
  5. Tap Notifications and then turn off Allow Notifications.

This will prevent Snapchat from sending you any push notifications on your iPhone or iPad; its another matter whether it can contact you via email (that depends on your settings within the app). But initially, the app wont have permission to send you alerts through the app itself.

Disable ALL Snapchat notifications on Android

Depending on your smartphone’s make and model, these steps may vary, but they should serve as a basis to reach the option were looking for.

  1. Open the settings on your Android.
  2. Go to the Notifications section.
  3. Tap See all apps to expand the full list of apps.
  4. Find the Snapchat app and tap on it.
  5. Tap and disable All Snapchat notifications.

The operating system will block all notifications Snapchat tries to send. Note that when you open the app again, you may see a prompt to allow notifications; if you want to keep them disabled, simply deny that permission.
