It has taken time, but we finally have an official Instagram client for Windows 10. Until now, users who wanted to enjoy the number-one photo social network had to make do with the -limited- web version that practically lets you do the bare minimum. Now, you can download Instagram for Windows 10 and browse through the app on your PC or device running Microsoft’s operating system.

Instagram arrives officially on Windows 10 machines

So, if you have a PC or tablet with Windows 10, you can already enjoy this popular app on your device. It should be noted that, for now, this is a somewhat early version but functional in the vast majority of the implemented options.

Basically, the Instagram experience for Windows 10 boils down to what we have on mobile, but on a computer screen. The adaptation is practically the same as on a smartphone, so we won’t get lost in the interface of this newly released version.

Thus, we have the possibility to view the photos posted by the accounts we follow, as well as give them likes, comment, share and other basic options. Likewise, we can also check the four main sections of the app: Feed, Explore, Likes (received and from those you follow) and our profile.

Notably, we can access the full settings of our account and even edit the profile exactly as on mobile, including changing the profile picture. Initially, these options (or most of them) are not available on the web version, so this is an incentive to use the app.

Instagram Stories are available in the desktop app

Another detail that sets the app apart from the web is that in this version we can view Instagram Stories, something that is currently not possible on the web. In theory, we can also upload our own Stories, but the app freezes when we try to do so (in my case maybe because I don’t have any webcam installed). On tablets and mobiles it is understood to work.

But let’s get to what we all ask: Can you upload photos on Instagram for Windows 10? The answer is NO.

It’s a shame, but it seems Instagram prefers to keep this functionality exclusively on mobile devices. However, we don’t know whether future updates to this desktop app will enable that option.

Download Instagram for Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store

So, if this new official client appeals to you, we recommend downloading Instagram for Windows 10 even if only to be able to see Stories on the desktop.

The app can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store for free and requires running Windows 10 on an x64 architecture with DirectX 9 at a minimum.
