It’s no wonder people say that Google knows everything, and after all, it’s true. It serves as a guide to find information we want to look up, but in return, Google keeps a trail of the activity we perform on the web, usually to improve its service and provide us with more accurate information based on our queries. Now, all the information related to these searches, browsing and more is gathered in My Activity, a new space where we’ll see – privately – practically everything we’ve visited on the web.

Many people will have deleted their history from the browser at some point, or the search history from the video network, etc. What My Activity aims to do is bring everything together in one place so you don’t have to go to different sites or platforms, or devices, since the activity from our Android will also appear.

Google’s My Activity brings us closer to ourselves

As soon as you enter My Activity on Google you’ll see a list of activities we’ve done on the web. For example, visiting a page, or if we’ve used an app on our smartphone, or a query searched on Google… The interesting thing about this is that Google can understand the related topics you’ve been active on and groups them; so, if you’ve been watching videos of Juego de Tronos and then a guide on a website, all of that will appear within the category ‘Juego de Tronos’ even though you didn’t look them up at the same time. Remember that the purpose is to quickly find the record you’re looking for.

On the other hand, at the top there’s a complete search tool in case we want to enter a term directly and find that entry we want to delete or view again—useful when we want to reread an article but don’t remember which page it was on, for example. That search tool has several filters, such as date and ‘products’ of Google (Maps, Chrome…). Likewise, we can delete entire blocks or specific histories.

Just below the search box you’ll find a small tool that marks the day of the history shown below, as well as the number of items it contains and a small chart that shows this same number broken down by content type: Chrome, Android, searches, news, images… Then, for each history entry, we can check its details, which reflect the operating system where that activity was recorded, the date, the browser…

Song lyrics and speed tests directly from Google

Also, it’s recently become known that Google is implementing a couple of ‘quick answers’ in its search results.

One of them is the lyrics of a song; when you search “lyrics of X song” the lyrics will appear directly in the results, without needing to enter any website. Then, we will also be able to run an Internet speed test in the same way. Needless to say, these new features are currently only available for the English version of Google, but they are expected to reach the Spanish one sooner rather than later.
