Suppose you have two smartphones: one you carry with you all day and another you only use at home. Or you have a smartphone and a tablet, but in any case you don’t want to give up replying to messages that arrive at any time. That’s where you can choose to have two WhatsApp accounts (or up to four) active at the same time on your different devices.

So, if you receive a WhatsApp and at that moment you’re using your secondary smartphone (or tablet), you can reply without having to fetch your main phone. A useful feature that until very recently could not be carried out as easily as it can now, since the WhatsApp company has finally enabled it natively.

How to have two WhatsApp at the same time on your primary and secondary phone (or on your tablet)

Assuming you already have WhatsApp running on your usual smartphone, let’s set up the secondary device (or tablet) to complete the registration process so that messages also arrive on that device.

Whether your main phone is an iPhone or an Android, the process is very similar and you will be able to pair your devices without major problems.

  1. First, you need to download WhatsApp on your secondary device where you also want to have your WhatsApp account.
  2. When it installs, open WhatsApp and tap Continue until you reach the screen that asks you to enter your phone number.
  3. Instead of entering it, tap the three-dot icon and select Link as an additional device.

A QR code will appear on the screen that you will need to scan from the WhatsApp app on your primary device (Settings/Linked devices/Link a device).

  4. The chats will begin to load on your secondary device, thus acting as a “mirror” of your primary WhatsApp.

From that moment on, your messages will arrive on both devices. That’s how you can have two WhatsApp at the same time without any hassle!

But what I want is to have two accounts on the same device!

If, on the other hand, what you’re looking for is to have two different WhatsApp accounts on the same device, the app itself includes a multi-account system where you can register more than one phone number and receive messages from both phones.

To add another WhatsApp account to your usual one, simply follow these steps:

  1. Open the WhatsApp app and from the Chats tab, tap the three-dot icon to enter Settings.
  2. Where your name appears, tap the (+) icon and then tap Add account.

  3. Register your other phone number following the on-screen instructions.

The registration process will be virtually identical to the usual one and once it’s set up, you’ll be able to switch between accounts in Settings.

If this option does not appear for you, you can try cloning the app of WhatsApp using some of the functions integrated by certain manufacturers. For example, the App Twin application on Huawei devices that lets you duplicate the same app to use it with two different numbers, or Xiaomi’s Dual Apps feature to achieve exactly the same result.

You can also try third-party apps like Clone App on Android, if your manufacturer doesn’t integrate this feature natively.
