At the beginning of the year a new social network burst onto the scene with a rather striking idea: the app sent you a notification at a random time and you had to upload a photo immediately, which was taken with the rear and front cameras at the same time so your friends could see both you and your surroundings. Yes, we’re talking about BeReal, which has since started to rack up quite a few numbers, and TikTok, having seen an opportunity, hasn’t stood by idly and launched TikTok Now, an app you can download separately (although it can also be accessed from the main app).

What is TikTok Now? In short, a copy of BeReal’s concept. It practically has the same key features, so if you were already a user of the original app, you won’t miss out on TikTok Now.

Upload a photo every day at a random time along with your friends

It’s not the first time we’ve seen an app “inspired” by others. We’ve seen it with Instagram borrowing many ideas from Snapchat, and now TikTok does the same to continue expanding even more.

TikTok Now isn’t very complicated, although its approach, like BeReal’s, does sound fun. For those who don’t know what it’s about, here’s a summary:

The goal of this format is to show your friends the “real” moments of your day-to-day. Because here you can’t schedule your posts or upload photos whenever you want; instead the app sends you a daily notification at a random time and that’s the only moment when you can post content (well, you’re given a 3-minute window).

But not only you: your friends will also receive the notification at the same time, so you’ll all see what each of you is doing at that very moment.

Photos and videos shared by default with your friends

TikTok Now captures photos with both the rear and front cameras, layering one image over the other to give a better sense of the situation you’re in and what surrounds you. Also, it not only allows you to take photos, but you can also choose to upload a 10-second video (one of the main differences with BeReal).

And, as we’ve been saying throughout the post, TikTok Now is more of a private than public component, since it’s mainly intended to share your posts with your friends. However, in the settings you can set the content to be public, as long as you are over 18 years old.

Regarding minors’ privacy, TikTok Now inherits the same conditions as the main app: accounts of users under 16 are private by default, users under 18 cannot share their posts in the “Search” tab, and users between 13 and 15 have tools to limit comments.

Download TikTok Now for iPhone and Android

If you’re already a TikTok user and BeReal caught your attention, but you were reluctant to sign up for another social network, or you simply have more friends on TikTok, this variant may be what you’ve been waiting for. TikTok Now can be downloaded for free on iPhone from the App Store and on Android from Google Play, but it can also be used directly from the main TikTok app.

Is this the future of the “stories” format? Will TikTok Now bury BeReal? Now it’s just a matter of Instagram joining the party as well.
