If you are one of those who has welcomed ChatGPT into your life and use it in your day-to-day, what better than having it handy directly in WhatsApp? A few days ago we explained how you could add Microsoft’s Copilot to the popular messaging app; in this article we show you how to do the same with OpenAI’s artificial intelligence.
Since the main use of ChatGPT is to chat with it, and WhatsApp is precisely the main app we use to converse with our contacts, it is very interesting to be able to chat directly with this AI in the WhatsApp interface to make those quick queries that do not require the advanced features of ChatGPT.
How you can add ChatGPT as a contact on WhatsApp
You can make text queries to ChatGPT as if you were talking to a friend: from recipes with the ingredients you have on hand to helping you write an email or dedications—whatever you can think of. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp and tap the + icon.
- The new chat menu will open, where you can create a New contact.
- In the new contact details, add ChatGPT as the first name and leave the last name empty. For the phone, set it to United States so the prefix appears as +1, since the number is North American. The number to enter is: (+1) 1 (800) 242-8478.
- Tap Save and if you added it correctly, the ChatGPT icon should automatically appear as its profile picture. Close the contact profile to return to WhatsApp.
- In new chat, search for ChatGPT in your contact list and send it any message.
ChatGPT will reply to your first message with a notice in English indicating that by using its services you accept its terms and conditions, and it will answer your query.
Copilot is a bit better than ChatGPT on WhatsApp
If you already followed our previous tutorial on how to add Copilot, you’ll see the experience is very similar, although it has an important disadvantage compared to Microsoft’s AI: ChatGPT is not able to recognize images through the WhatsApp chat, while Copilot can. In this way, we lose a feature that is quite useful to have directly integrated in WhatsApp for reverse image searches, for example, of something quick that we are viewing at the moment.
It is worth noting that the use of ChatGPT and Copilot is completely free via WhatsApp, although it obviously has certain limitations compared to the paid versions or even the free ones we can enjoy through their own apps (as shown in the example above). But for users who want to make basic, casual queries, without having to install an additional app they will hardly use and without even having to create an account for it, having this mode of ChatGPT on WhatsApp can be more than enough.
